Pacquiao vs Marquez 3: Controverial Marquez Coach Files Lawsuit Against Victor Conte

Angel Hernandez, the man formerly known as admitted steroids dealer and government witness Angel Heredia, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Victor Conte, who has spent the better part of the last two weeks attacking Hernandez's involvement in Juan Manuel Marquez's training camp for Saturday's fight with Manny Pacquiao. From Rick Reeno:
"There is a lawsuit pending, a lawsuit against him. That's why I can't comment too much on it. We filed the lawsuit. I don't know exactly where it's going to be [as far as the court]. The lawsuit will be in the United States. I wish he was here so I could see him [face to face] but he's not," Hernandez told BoxingScene.com.

I don't know how far this could go, how legit it will be, what will happen. We have some smart legal minds who might fill us in there. But I will say that this has oddly dominated Victor Conte's mind, it would seem. It's almost witch hunt-like, and especially strange considering the former witch in charge of the hunt. Conte has said time and time again that he understands people doubt his involvement in boxing and sports in general, but it's almost like -- and this is just my opinion having followed the whole thing -- Conte is trying to use a calling-out of Hernandez/Heredia to legitimize himself as fighting the good fight. And while I do find it odd that Hernandez combined changing his name with showing up for all to see on the highly-publicized "HBO 24/7," I can't help but figure that if Victor Conte is allowed to work with fighters, who's to stop and blow the whistle on Hernandez, especially if the whistle-blower is Conte? Again, just my opinion. I don't know if neither is cheating, both are cheating, one is and the other isn't, which that would be, and I don't know if Hernandez's case will really go anywhere. But it's become a weirdly fascinating side drama to this fight's narrative.
